Visionary Supervisor Spotlight: Karina Pierce

We are all about celebrating amazing mental health leaders and clinical supervisors, with plans to highlight one visionary supervisor each month!

This month’s spotlight is: Karina Pierce, LPC

What types of supervision do you offer and to whom?

Professional Counselor Associates, Individual and Group Supervision in Oregon

What makes you a visionary in supervision?

Having a supervisor that you can build insight and awareness from an honest, compassionate, and non-judgmental stance is my approach to supervision. I find that my learning style may be different from others and so it is even more important to identify what are the best approaches to supporting supervisees during their journey in navigating the therapy profession in addition to their own development as a clinician. I also found the challenges when I was looking for a supervisor who is familiar or knowledgeable working with BIPOC folks and as a Chinese American, I think that is a major aspect of my identity and the framework in my therapeutic orientation as I work with individuals from a culturally responsive lens.

What is your favorite thing about providing clinical supervision?

One of my favorite things about providing clinical supervision is to enhance my own skills, knowledge, experiences in addition to expanding the supervisees skills set as they develop into their own self as the therapist. I will work collaboratively with supervisees as they explore methods and best approaches through engagement and discussion.
